Ready to experience Teton Valley?
Wildlife of the region
Who you'll share the valley with
Teton Valley sits between two of the most intact wild places in the lower 48. Keep binoculars by the door: moose wander the willows along the Teton River, and the drive to Grand Teton is a wildlife drive in its own right.
River bottoms
Moose
Early morning along the Teton River is your best bet. They browse the willows and often turn up close to town, so give them plenty of room.
Fall and winter
Elk
In September the bulls bugle at dusk, a sound that carries for miles. Come winter, thousands gather on the National Elk Refuge outside Jackson.
Along the water
Bald eagles
Watch the tall cottonwoods along the Teton River and the South Fork of the Snake, where eagles perch above the water waiting for trout.
Stay at least 25 yards from moose, elk and bison, and 100 yards from bears and wolves. A long lens gets you the shot without spooking the animal.
